A year ago, Jonacor Yachts, together with Benetti and the client’s family, took part in the keel laying ceremony of Benetti B.Yond 40M (BXL002) — an important milestone in the construction of the 40-metre superyacht.
The keel laying traditionally marks the beginning of a new stage in a yacht’s construction, when the project starts taking physical shape. As part of the ceremony, the owner personally welded a commemorative coin onto a steel section of the future yacht — a centuries-old shipbuilding tradition associated with good fortune and safe voyages.
While modern yacht construction is driven by increasingly sophisticated engineering and technology, traditions such as this remain an important part of custom and semi-custom yacht building. Benetti continues to preserve the keel laying ceremony with particular care, involving the future owner personally and making it a memorable part of the construction process. The commemorative coin remains with the yacht throughout her lifetime and is positioned so that it can be accessed and seen again in the future.
For Jonacor Yachts, the ceremony also represents an important milestone in a much longer process. The company accompanies its clients throughout the entire journey from the first discussions about a future yacht and project selection to contract negotiations, construction, Construction Management, technical supervision, sea trials, delivery and continued support throughout ownership.
In the case of Benetti B.Yond 40M (BXL002), Jonacor Yachts represents the client throughout the construction process, working alongside the shipyard and overseeing the project on the owner’s behalf. This continuous involvement allows the team to follow the yacht’s development at each key stage and ensure that the client’s interests remain at the centre of the project.
One year after the keel laying ceremony, the first steel sections have become the recognisable hull of B.Yond 40M (BXL002), marking another significant step towards completion. We will share the next stage of the yacht’s construction and the latest progress of the project in our upcoming update.
